The all-new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan combines sensible and enjoyable in one sleek package

All-new 2018 volkswagen Tiguan

Not everyone needs a gigantic SUV that climbs like a mountain goat. Most drivers want something that’s sensible, yet fun, like the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan. VW’s compact sport utility was built for urban adventure. It doesn’t need three-feet of ground clearance, or a massive grille guard to fit in. It is what it is. And that’s pretty cool.

What’s new for 2018?

For 2018 the Tiguan has been completely redesigned from the ground up. It sports a more spacious and sophisticated interior, along with standard third row seating.

Confident design

Why settle for a cookie-cutter SUV? Bold character lines run the length of the Tiguan, while a sculpted hood announces its arrival. Available LED lighting at all four corners gives it a truly modern look. And should you want to add a little more flare, there’s an optional R-Line package with exclusive wheels and sport-inspired body features.

The entire interior of the Tiguan has been rethought and refreshed. Now there’s room for the cat, the dog and the kids – not necessarily in that order. Two and three row models are available, depending on how big your brood is. Both rows of rear seats fold flat in the three-row model to provide 65.7 cubic feet of cargo space. That number increased to a total of 73.5 cubic feet in two-row models.

There’s a Tiguan tailor-fit to your needs. For 2018, there are four trim levels available: S, SE, SEL and SEL Premium.

Powerful and sophisticated

Most SUVs punish you with falls-on-it’s-face acceleration and numb handling. But just because you need a family hauler, doesn’t mean you need to give up the joy of driving. The Tiguan goes against the grain, providing plenty of power with a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine. This provides a healthy 184 hp and 221 lb-ft at the accelerator pedal. An advanced 8-speed automatic transmission gets that power to the drive wheels.

For decades, the legendary 4MOTION all-wheel drive system has been offered on VW vehicles. This signature technology, available on the Tiguan, distributes power between the front and rear wheels. The result is unsurpassed traction and handling. When you absolutely have to go out for a chai latte fix on a snowy day, the 4MOTION-equipped Tiguan will be ready.

User-friendly advanced technology

There’s no point in having the latest technology if you can’t figure out how to use it. The Tiguan solves this problem with features that are high-tech, yet don’t require a PHD in physics to use.

The first thing you’ll notice when you slide into the driver’s seat is the digital display, which looks like something from the distant future. The wide map navigation feature puts a bird’s-eye view of the road right in front of you.

Other handy features include a touch-screen infotainment system (featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and an overhead view camera. There’s even a hands-free liftgate for when you bought too much at the big box store.

German-engineered safety

Volkswagen is known for creating some of the most advanced technology at it’s Wolfsburg headquarters. And the Tiguan is no exception. It features the latest safety tech wrapped up in a Driver Assistance package. Highlights include forward front assist, blind spot monitoring, rear traffic alert and lane assist. Features that are just as convenient as they are safe, include park pilot and adaptive cruise control.
