2020 Volvo XC60 SUV features and specs

If you haven't checked out the new Volvo XC60 compact crossover SUV, you'll probably wonder why it took you so long to get up close and personal with it. Now, in its second generation, the 2020 Volvo XC60 must be one of the very best vehicles in its class. The problem you might have though is deciding which class it falls into as the brand has been moving steadily from mass-market to luxury in recent times. The good news for buyers is that even though it looks and feels every-inch the luxury SUV, it won't necessarily take luxury car money for you to purchase one.

Exterior styling

The current family of Volvo SUVs all look quite similar to each other but in different sizes. That's certainly not a bad thing though because the Swedish automaker's current design language is modern, stylish, clean, attractive, elegant, and stunning. And if you think the flagship XC90 is a little bulky, and the baby XC40 is a little truncated, the latest Volvo XC60 is going to be just right.

Trim levels

Volvo keeps things nice and simple with 3 trim levels for the 2020 XC60. The entry model is the Momentum, the mid-range version is the R-Design, and the range-topper is the XC60 Inscription. However, Volvo offers buyers a lot of flexibility as there are three different engine options to choose from.

The three powerplants are called the T5, T6 and the T8, and all three start with what’s essentially the same 2.0-liter turbo-four. The standard T5 leaves the engine as it’s with 250 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, which is sent to the front or all four wheels through an excellent eight-speed automatic transmission. The T6 adds a supercharger to the turbo-four recipe, and that then gives you 316 horsepower, 295 lb.-ft. of torque, and standard all-wheel-drive to play with. The T8 turns the XC60 hybrid, but it isn’t just any old hybrid. The T8 is Volvo's performance hybrid, and it offers an impressive and exhilarating 400 horsepower and 472 lb.-ft. of torque for standard the all-wheel-drive system to get to grips with.

If you were still harboring doubts about the Volvo's luxury credentials, even the briefest of moments inside the cabin of the XC60 will dispel them. The interior is spacious, beautifully styled in a modern way, well put together with high-quality materials, and quite simply very comfortable and luxurious.

Features and Equipment

When a base model comes standard with the likes of leather upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, keyless ignition, a power liftgate, rear parking sensors, a massive 12.3-inch digital display for the gauge cluster, and some stunning 18-inch alloy wheels, you know the two higher trims are going to be special.
The R-Design adds things like 19-inch alloys, some glossy black trim pieces for a sportier ambiance, Nappa leather seats with front thigh extenders, a navigation system, and stiffer springs and sport-tuned chassis for a sportier drive.
The Inscription goes uber-luxury rather than sporty, and that means features such as driftwood trim, quad-zone climate control, signature LED lighting, chrome accents, and plenty more.
